At last!!!… I was sworn to secrecy for so long! Back in March I was approached by Retro Ford magazine to photograph their special 200 page edition. AS the offical photographer, it was my job to arrange the studio, make up artist and model to feature on the front cover, as well as many pages within the magazine. Normally my assistant would do this but I like to be hands on with new clients. Photographing cars was my first passion within the commercial world of photography. As a student I managed to wrangle my way into the car photography world by finding a really well respected photographer and attending a shoot in a top London studio where I first assisted with car photography. However Automotive has always been a great part of my life… and this experience gave me the bug, I worked for this tog for around a year, then I found myself a more permanent roll locally. The travel everyday to town was a pain. However since then I’ve photographed for many blue chip car brands, such as Suzuki GB, Honda, KIA, BMW and the list goes on! Not only cars, but motorbikes too. I covered national press […]

One of my regular clients is a new up and coming street-ware fashion label. The clothing is super cool and very comfortable. They often use reality tv stars to model their clothing range photoshoots so I get to meet and socialise a little with these amazing people. The clothing brand is based in Brighton so we try to keep all the shoots local to the guys that run the label. It’s usually a fast turn around shoot with imagery supplied on the set. So I guess you could call it a Brighton fashion photoshoot. Brighton Marina is featured in their spring summer collection, but I’ve worked in many places in the past with them, places like Fuller’s Earth Works in Redhill Surrey and the Balcombe Via Duct which has amazing architecture and a massive eye sight to behold up close. Just as beautiful from afar. Also featured in the spring summer collection is a local mansion, where we shot the clothing and models with the building and a Ferrari F430 which was again quite amazing. Below are some of the imagery from the shoot, again, straight out of camera, no airbrushing or adjustments. The difficult thing was shooting the spring/summer […]

Commissioning a family portrait is as popular now as it’s ever been. Some families want a one-off portrait that they can cherish forever, while others get one done every year to mark the changes in their ever growing family. However, having a family portrait done professionally, is by no means a modern experience. Family portraits have been around since the ancient civilisations. Here’s a brief look at the history of family portraits and how methods have changed throughout the ages. 16th Century Oil paintings of dynastic families were popular in the 1500s but only for the very rich and powerful. One of the most famous family portraits in history can be seen in the Haunted Gallery at Hampton Court Palace. It depicts Henry VII in a dominant and central position surrounded by his children and Jane Seymour, the mother of his only son, Edward. The actual artist is unknown, yet it’s believed that the family wouldn’t have posed together for the portrait. The children were rarely at court during the same time so the artist would have used other portraits as reference and taken sketches from memory. 19th Century The first type of commercial photography was introduced in the mid […]

The most crucial and fundamental aspect of any business, no matter how small, is marketing. Ultimately, you have a product or service that you want to sell. Good marketing involves making your business visible: getting out there and increasing your brand awareness, while using methods to make you stand out above the competition. That’s why using the right images to promote your brand and sell your products is essential. Professional photographs grab attention, display your company and your brand in the best possible way and boost your credibility. You may have the best business idea ever and offer amazing products and services. But if they aren’t marketed effectively, your business will suffer and ultimately, fail. So before you start snapping away with your smartphone, consider these 5 good reasons why your business needs a professional photographer. 1. Your Website Every business should have a website. It’s the first place prospective customers will go to. You will be judged by your content so the first impressions need to be positive. Written content is important, but the eyes are immediately drawn to images. That’s why they need to be professional and relevant. 2. Quality An amateur photo screams “unprofessional”. Images should help, […]

The Royal Pavilion, The Perfect Venue For Your Brighton Event If you’re planning a wedding or corporate event in Brighton and you really want to impress, in terms of grandeur, you can’t get much better than the Royal Pavilion. With its marvellous, oriental-style architecture and beautiful Regency gardens, the Royal Pavilion is one of the most exotic locations in the UK. Rich with history, elegance and style, the Royal Pavilion has all the ingredients for an unforgettable event and truly memorable photographs. Here’s a look at why the Royal Pavilion, Brighton is the perfect location to give your event that all impressive ‘wow’ factor. History The Royal Pavilion was first constructed as a modest seaside residence for the then Prince Regent, George IV in 1787. He had been advised by his physician that he would benefit from the healing powers of the sea air, so the building was initially constructed to be used as a therapeutic refuge. The building was lavishly decorated to suit the Prince Regent’s love for ostentatious designs. However, he wanted something even grander and in 1815 commissioned John Nash to transform the modest villa into the majestic oriental-domed, exotic building we see today.
